The 2009 Riesling Summit held on Tuesday May 5, 2009 at the Astor Center (The Gallery at Astor Center) in New York City was a resounding success. Mary Ewing-Mulligan, M.W., guided a seminar room full of media and trade attendees and conducted a seminar titled " A Comparative Tasting of Finger Lakes Riesling with other Rieslings from Germany, France, Australia and Washington". Attendees were able to taste and compare some of the best Finger Lakes Rieslings with those of the rest of the world. Jim Tresize introduced the International Riesling Foundation's Riesling Taste Profile and made a compelling case that use of the profile by producers would provide consumers with far greater clairty in selecting their preferred style of Riesling. The tasting sparked thoughtful and engaging commentary by the audience.
The Aromatic Showcase immediately followed the Summit that included tasting of over 100 wines that included Pinot Gris and Gewurztraminer as well as several styles of Riesling.
